Presenter Bio:
Mike Forseth, MD
Dr. Mike Forseth is a family physician, entrepreneur, and co-founder of Ava. He is the 2025 Calgary Family Physician of the Year. He continues to practice at Britannia Medical Clinic, where the limitations of legacy EMRs helped inspire the creation of a better one. At Ava, Mike turns the challenges experienced by physicians and clinic teams into company-wide priorities. As CEO, he guides Ava’s strategy, partnerships, and national growth while ensuring the company remains closely connected to the people its technology is designed to support.
Mike’s hands-on approach has shaped Ava from the beginning. He has helped grow Ava from a solution created for one clinic into a nationally recognized Canadian EMR that has migrated more than 6.5 million patient charts and was named Best Electronic Health Record Service in 2026. In 2025, Mike was named Calgary Family Physician of the Year, a patient-nominated honour recognizing the expertise, trust, compassion, and dedication he brings to patient care. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Flinders University and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Simon Fraser University.
Matt Henschke, MD
Dr. Matt Henschke works on both sides of the screen: he practices medicine and writes code for Ava. Rather than simply advising a software team from a clinical perspective, Matt can experience a workflow in practice, identify where it creates unnecessary friction, and help translate a better approach directly into the platform.
As President and Chief Visionary Officer, Matt guides Ava’s product vision and technical direction. His technical leadership has supported Ava’s rapid release model and the in-house development of capabilities such as provincial billing, laboratory, and secure data integrations, helping feedback from real clinics become practical product improvements. In 2025, Matt was named one of Canada’s Top 20 Under 40 in Life Sciences, recognizing leaders making an outsized contribution to healthcare and life sciences innovation. His broader clinical contributions have also included serving as a Physician Champion with the South Calgary Primary Care Network and as a guideline appraiser for the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care.
