Presenter Bios:

Suleiman Furmli, MD

Suleiman completed his medical school (2015) and residency (2017) at the University of Toronto. While in residency and shortly thereafter – he completed extra rotations in psychotherapy and mental health, palliative care, and metabolic health (T2D and Metabolic Syndrome). He is born to parents who came to Canada as Refugees from Afghanistan. In addition to working in local primary care clinics, he works as a travel medicine physician at Universal Travel Health (https://universaltravelhealth.ca/) and is also the clinical director at Rossland Diagnostic Clinic in Ajax (https://rosslandic.ca/) which offers diagnostic imaging and cardiology services. In his spare time he enjoys being a husband and father to three young children, playing pickup sports including basketball and soccer, and helping with non-for-profit and charitable initiatives both locally and abroad.

Mariam Farooq, MPH

Mariam Farooq is an MPH Candidate at the University of Toronto. She holds a Bachelor of Health Studies from Queen’s University. Mariam currently works as a Research Assistant at CAMH, where she has gained experience in public health research, and knowledge translation. She has collaborated with institutions such as the University of Calgary and the University of Toronto on various health promotion initiatives aimed at advancing health equity and improving access to care for vulnerable populations. She aspires to continue working on such initiatives to enact meaningful change and promote health equity.
