Presenter Bios:

Chandi Chandrasena, MD

Dr. Chandrasena joined OntarioMD (OMD) as its Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in 2021. She is a family physician practicing in Ottawa for almost 20 years and a former OMD Physician Peer Leader who has mentored many of her colleagues to use EMRs and digital health tools effectively to enhance patient care. As CMO, she provides clinical advice at provincial and national tables and clinician advisory groups and is instrumental in forging system-level partnerships.

David Barber, MD

As a practicing family doctor and Associate Professor at Queen’s University, Dr. Barber brings a blend of clinical and academic experience to his role as SGFP chair. Over his tenure with SGFP, he’s developed a deep appreciation for the challenges and opportunities in family medicine as it works together to enhance primary care in Ontario. Dr. Barber is also an OntarioMD Physician Peer Leader

Briana Yee Providence, MD

Dr. Briana Yee-Providence is a family physician in Chatham-Kent, where she practices comprehensive primary care in both community and hospital. She completed her residency in Canton, Ohio, at the Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine in 2010 and is board certified by the American College of Family Physicians. Dr. Providence currently serves as physician co-chair of the Chatham Kent Primary Care Network and co-chair of the Physician Leadership and Engagement Table, working with the Ministry of Health, Ontario Health, and the Ontario Medical Association to advocate for physician input in the development of Ontario Health Teams and Primary Care Networks. In these roles, she has been deeply engaged in advancing health system priorities with a focus on integration, patient access, quality care and ensuring physician voices are included in system change. Her leadership experience also includes serving as Vice Lead of the Chatham Kent Family Health Team, Co-Chair of the CKOHT and working with Ontario Health, shaping her expertise in clinical leadership, administration, and advocacy for policies that strengthen care for patients and communities across Ontario.

Rebecca Hicks, MD

Dr. Rebecca Hicks is a community-based comprehensive care family physician working in Toronto. She has held local, regional and provincial leadership positions with her involvement as her family health team’s lead physician, being a member of West Toronto OHT’s Primary Care Council, and being a member-at-large of the OMA’s SGFP Executive and Health Policy Committee. Dr. Hicks is passionate about fighting for better working conditions for physicians and promoting personal and professional well being for the the doctors of Ontario. She is committed to advocating for fair compensation for the critical work doctors do across the province. She is the current President-elect for the OMA
