Accelerating Connected Care in Canada: Dare to Believe in the Art of the Possible

This session will aim to provide the following:

  • An overview of the current state of connected care (interoperability) in Canada, combining the real world physician’s perspective with recent Infoway clinician interoperability survey results. Will advances in this area improve physicians’ digital administrative burden?;
  • An introduction to the CIDH (Centre for Clinical Innovation in Digital Health), spotlighting the Connected Care Innovation Grant and Student/Learner Scholarship program;
  • An overview of the goals of the Digital Health Interoperability Task Force, a unique partnership with national physician organizations the CMA, CFPC, and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC);
  • An update on e-prescribing: PrescribeIT’s progress in Ontario and across Canada;
  • A brief snapshot of the pan-Canadian Patient Summary progress, and why it matters to physicians with regard to communication and information sharing for enhanced patient care.

Rashaad Bhyat, MD

Dr. Rashaad Bhyat serves as Clinician Leader on the Engagement team at Canada Health Infoway. He is a family physician with a passion for digital health, advising Infoway on numerous initiatives across Canada since 2011, including virtual care, EMR adoption and optimization, electronic prescribing, remote patient monitoring, and increasing patient access to health records. He currently practices in an EMR-enabled family medicine clinic in the Greater Toronto Area.
